Mycelium

Thinking as compost

Thoughts grow from thoughts: ideas, theories, hypotheses.

But also from the sensuous, the experiential, the intuitive, the poetic.

Trauma and love-affairs.
Everything chewed and digested.

Composted and altered beyond recognition.

Transformed to new life.

Remnants of seeds can be traced here and there in the new humus.

But what has really taken root may be hard to trace back to specific sources.

Still I would like to share some parts of the huge mycelium of ideas that my thoughts as well as my art spring from.

Hoping that you may find inspiration to dig deeper into the dimensions that resonate with you.

  • Also the word Economy has its roots in the Home - οἶκος (oîkos) 'household', and νέμω (némō) 'distribute, allocate - managing our home. This has become an abstract science of all things quantifiable even if only in the virtual reality of money, which is what makes capitalism and its core project of growth possible.
If we had more knowledge of our home - ecology - and a stronger feeling of being connected with our home in an embodied way on a daily basis, we would most certainly think differently of the managing of our home - our eco-nomy.

    Stop Ecocide

“Ecocide”is a word to describe what is happening to our planet; the mass damage and destruction of the natural living world.  It literally means “killing one’s home”. And right now, in most of the world, no-one is held responsible.  It’s time to change the rules.  It’s time to protect our home.
We are working, together with a growing global network of lawyers, diplomats, and across all sectors of civil society, towards making ecocide an international crime.

Feral Atlas invites you to explore the ecological worlds created when nonhuman entities become tangled up with human infrastructure projects. Seventy-nine field reports from scientists, humanists, and artists show you how to recognize “feral” ecologies, that is, ecologies that have been encouraged by human-built infrastructures, but which have developed and spread beyond human control. These infrastructural effects, Feral Atlas argues, are the Anthropocene.
